Examples

  • Ben okula gidiyorum.I am going to school.

Common uses

'gitmek' is the general verb for going somewhere. Notice the t→d consonant softening: the stem 'git' becomes 'gid' before any vowel-initial suffix, giving 'gidiyor' (present-continuous) and 'gider' (aorist).

  • nereye gidiyorsun? (where are you going?)
  • eve gitmek (to go home)
  • işe gitmek (to go to work)
  • tatile gitmek (to go on holiday)
  • gidelim! (let's go!)
